Microsoft’s Christmas Campaign, ‘3D Holiday’ Includes Paints An Animated Yeti

Created by m:united//McCann and Blk-Ops, Microsoft’s “3D Holiday” spot for Windows carries a message about kindness and inclusion.

The minute-long film starts in animation with a young girl, on a laptop who grabs her “Gabe the Yeti” doll and dives into an outer-space poster where the yeti becomes a real friend. Then, she’s transferred into a magical space world alongside Gabe. The space travel-mates collect an assortment of oddly drawn creatures, all of whom need some kind of love or support, and end up partying with them on a space rock with a disco ball. The film ends through a live action scene where the audience sees the real-life girl on her Surface Book dreaming the whole story, and the tagline reads, “Create a better world.”

The spot is directed by The Directors Bureau with MPC responsible for the cute animation as well as VFX. Kathleen Hall, Corporate Vice President in Brand, Advertising and Research at Microsoft has commented below,

The holiday season is a time for community, inclusion—-and imagination. Our goal was to bring all of those together and invite people to join us in creating a kinder more inclusive world through the power and magic of 3D.

The project aims to promote Surface Book of Microsoft, that appears at the beginning and end of the commercial where we find the girl creating an interstellar world and all its creatures with a stylus-pen.

Several characters that appeared in the film are inspired by those available on Remix 3D, the Microsoft library, which also handles a community site for sharing and building creations made with Paint 3D and other 3D-working platforms.
