Twitter has announced a new initiative asking experts to share their opinions on being a “healthy” social network in 2018.
Recently, Twitter has been struggling with aggressive and abusive content and these experiments have led company to take the next step: measuring the health of conversation on the social platform.
Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey said:
We have witnessed abuse, harassment, troll armies, manipulation through bots and human-coordination, misinformation campaigns, and increasingly divisive echo chambers. We aren’t proud of how people have taken advantage of our service, or our inability to address it fast enough.
In order to come up with a solution for this issue, the company is now inviting experts to submit their proposals, including their thoughts on how the company can measure the health of the Twitter platform, and keep it accountable to share their progress with the world.
If you want to improve something, you have to be able to measure it. The human body has a number of indicators of overall health, some very simple, like internal temperature. We know how to measure it, and we know some methods to bring it back in balance.
Awarding successful applicants with a collaboration with Twitter team, public data access and meaningful fund for their research, Twitter aims to find out how the company should approach this issue and which changes the company should start with.
Those interested in contributing to this collaborative work are expected to submit their proposal by April 13th.
