C-4 Analytics is an automotive digital marketing agency serving thousands of dealerships and dealer groups since 2009, headquartered in Wakefield, MA, just outside Boston. Most dealers do not have a media problem. They have a measurement problem, and fragmentation makes it worse: four vendors, four reports, each taking credit for the same sales, none showing market share. C-4 Analytics replaces the vendor stack with one partner and one strategy across paid search, paid social, display, video, Organic Media, and & AI Search Advertising, measured in vehicles sold and market share. A certified provider in 11 OEM digital programs, C-4 Analytics is a Google Premier Partner, a Meta Business Partner, TikTok Channel Sales Partner and the winner of 250 marketing awards.

Dealer Groups Grew AI Search Traffic 4x With Quality Content
The challenge
Car shoppers now ask ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Copilot where to buy, and AI assistants can only cite what they can read. Ten dealership groups wanted their stores to be the source those answers draw from.
What C-4 Analytics did
Through Organic Media, C-4 Analytics built SEO and AI search strategies on high-quality, unique content anchored in each group’s differentiators:
- Landing pages covering every profit center and stage of the buying funnel
- Fixed ops FAQs and top model trim breakdowns
- Structured data and off-make comparisons
- Site optimizations across each group’s websites
Results (2025 to 2026)
- Average 4x increase in website sessions from AI search sources, including ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Copilot
- Individual groups ranged from 3x to 6x
Why it matters
AEO and GEO aren’t a separate package. They’re SEO doing its job in more places. The same unique, structured content that earns organic rankings is what AI assistants quote.

Dealership Groups Grow AI Search Traffic 4x With Quality Content, C-4 Analytics Study Finds

Dealership Groups Grow AI Search Traffic 4x With Quality Content, C-4 Analytics Study Finds
Car shoppers are asking ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Copilot where to buy, and AI search traffic for car dealerships is starting to show up in the numbers. A new study from C-4 Analytics, an automotive digital marketing company, found that 10 dealership groups using its Organic Media strategies saw an average 4x increase in website sessions from AI search sources between 2025 and 2026.
The study looked at dealership groups across eight states that had received C-4 Analytics SEO services for at least one year. The goal was to measure how a library of high-quality, custom content performed in large language models (LLMs), the systems behind AI assistants. Every group in the study saw AI search sessions grow at least threefold, and two groups grew sixfold.
Results: AI Search Sessions Grew 3x to 6x Across 10 Dealership Groups
Website sessions from LLMs increased at every dealership group in the study. By group headquarters:
- New Jersey: 6x
- North Carolina: 6x
- Michigan: 5x
- Texas: 5x
- Nebraska: 4x
- Pennsylvania: 4x
- Texas: 3x
- Texas: 3x
- Connecticut: 3x
- California: 3x
The average across all 10 groups was a 4x increase in website sessions from AI search sources, including ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Copilot.
What Drove the Growth in Dealership AI Search Visibility
The growth didn’t come from shortcuts. The dealership groups invested in SEO and AI search strategies built on high-quality, genuinely unique content anchored in each group’s differentiators, not generic, high-volume copy that search engines, LLMs and people have no reason to read or cite.
“Good Generative Engine Optimization, or ‘GEO,’ is built on using foundational SEO best practices in different ways to meet searchers where they are: not ‘hacking’ your way into AI search spaces for temporary gains,” wrote Christine Hayes, AD of SEO at C-4 Analytics, in the published case study.
The content strategies included:
- Fixed ops FAQs that answer the service questions shoppers ask
- Top model trim breakdowns that help shoppers compare a brand’s lineup
- Structured data that helps search engines and AI assistants read each page
- Off-make comparisons that conquest shoppers weighing a competing brand
Landing page topics and site optimizations were made continuously across profit centers and funnel stages. As a result, the groups gained relevancy in AI answers for queries focused on their top products and services.
Why the Study Measured Website Sessions, Not AI Citations
Tracking a dealership’s performance inside ChatGPT, Gemini or Google’s AI Mode is harder than tracking traditional search rankings. AI chat results are personalized to each user, LLMs are non-deterministic, and most existing keyword tools struggle to separate local visibility from national visibility.
Rank-tracking tools can show which content is cited at different points, but citations can’t be tracked completely or reliably. Website sessions can. That’s why C-4 Analytics measured AI search success by the traffic it produced: visibility only matters if it brings shoppers to the dealership’s website.
Sessions from AI search are still a small fraction of a dealership’s total website traffic. Even so, the data shows which pages shoppers click from AI answers and how those visits compare on engagement and key events. Across the study, the pages capturing LLM traffic shared three tactics:
- Comparing models within a brand’s lineup
- Conquesting against off-make alternatives
- Integrating FAQs with structured data tailored to specific profit centers
What the Findings Mean for Dealers
For dealers, the takeaway is direct: AI search visibility grows from the same foundation as strong organic search. Organic search isn’t about predicting which LLM to game next. It’s about building a lasting online presence that demonstrates Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness and Trustworthiness (E-E-A-T), Google’s framework for content quality, so that a dealership’s website is found wherever shoppers are searching.
Dealers who treat quality content as a long-term investment are building the pages AI assistants draw from. Dealers who wait are leaving those answers to the competitor down the road.
