Pinterest’s new experiment allows its users to customize their search results by color ranges according to their skin tone.
Having more than 200 million people users every month, Pinterest is providing inspirational images when people search for ideas, whether it’s a hairstyle to use on their wedding day, or home-design tips regarding on their budgets etc.
On the other hand, users can not always find what they are looking for easily, according to the company’s discovery and users’ comments. Thus, Pinterest decided to come up with a new solution which will make search process easier.
Starting this week, users can search for makeup-related ideas with the new filter option bringing results regarding to the skin tone searched for.
As it has not been easy to develop such technology, the company decided to work with Modiface, the leading provider of Augmented Reality technology for the beauty industry.
Acquired by L’Oréal this year, Modiface worked hard to create an algorithm which correctly detects the skin color of Pinterest users in various images.
As of now, the company is starting to provide this experience with four palettes, each representating a range of skin tones. Pinterest also shared that they will be improving the technology behind the new filters and expanding the color range to more skin tones as they continue to receive more feedback from Pinterest users.
After all, weren’t these feedbacks from Pinners that gave the company an idea to improve the Pinterest filters and user experience?
