Pantone Is Feeling ‘Classic Blue’ For The Next Year

Pantone announced the highly-anticipated “Color of the Year” yesterday and along with it, a moody shade this time.

It is basically known that Classic Blue has been chosen to represent the first year of the twenties. Besides the other facts Pantone was faced with deciding which color best expressed the zeitgeist—a tradition now in its 20th year.

Resembling like the Color of the Year in 2018, A boundless blue evocative of the vast and infinite evening sky, Pantone’s classic blue motivates us to look beyond the obvious to expand our thinking and challenges to think more deeply, opens up the flow of communication and arises our perspective. Pantone described the denim-like tone as “solid and dependable” and “non-aggressive and easily relatable.”

Laurie Pressman, Vice President of the Pantone Color Institute, commented on TIME Magazine,

We landed back on the blue family, where we’ve been and where we are. Just not knowing where to go and who to trust…[blue is] the feeling of calm and reassurance that help us have that confidence to move forward.

From now and then [1999], there’s the same feeling of trepidation about the world, which is why, based on what we saw happening in our global culture, we selected Pantone 19-4052, Classic Blue, to be our color of the year for 2020.  It’s a reassuring blue, full of calm and confidence. It builds connection.

The main psychology might sound familiar: Pantone’s 2019 Color of the Year, Living Coral, was “comforting and energizing at the same time, a color meant to serve as a salve in a time of global uncertainty,” as Co.Design reported last year. Classic Blue is in many ways a product of the same core observation.

Frankly, Pantone hoped the color would encourage people to stay calm. The colour expert company didn’t mean to refer any political statement.

Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute commented,

We are living in a time that requires trust and faith. It is this kind of constancy and confidence that is expressed by PANTONE 19-4052 Classic Blue.
