Hallam, the national multi-award-winning digital marketing agency based in Nottingham, has completed a share sale that has seen the appointment of two company directors to its shareholder board.
The move, which follows a management restructure earlier this year, will see Jake Third, Managing Director, and Ben Wood, Strategy Director, acquire shares of the company. They have worked at Hallam for six and eight years respectively.
Since stepping up to become Managing Director in May 2020, Jake has overseen the financial strategy and success of the business during the turbulent period caused by the pandemic. He’s also led Hallam’s commitment to colleague wellbeing, which includes launching its first Mental Health First Aiders initiative back in May.
Ben, who adopted his new role at a similar time, has been responsible for leading the new Strategy division of Hallam, which has contributed to new major client wins and numerous industry awards, including Best Large Integrated Agency at the 2020 EU Search Awards and, more recently, an agency record 10 prizes at The Drum Digital Recommends Awards night.
Founder and previous CEO, Susan Hallam, recently announced her plans to retire from Hallam at the end of the year. Susan and current Commercial Director Mike Hallam will retain shares in the business. Jake and Ben will join CEO Julio Taylor and Technical Director Jon Martin to complete the shareholding.
Julio Taylor, CEO of Hallam, said:
We are pleased to welcome Jake and Ben as new shareholder directors to the Hallam board, both have been integral figures within the business for a number of years now and contributed immensely to our ongoing success – particularly this year, which has seen our agency overcome the toughest challenges it has faced in its 20-year history.
They’ve joined the board at an exciting time as we continue to drive our unified, strategic approach forward and build deeper relationships with our clients. This addition complements our shareholders’ skills and experiences, and reflects the significant changes to the long-term strategy we’ve implemented this year.
Jake Third, MD at Hallam, said:
I am proud to become a shareholder of a company I feel so connected to. We have made such an incredible transformation in a short period of time and I am excited for this next step of the journey.
Ben Wood, Strategy Director, said:
I’m tremendously proud to become a shareholder of Hallam after seeing the company go from strength-to-strength in recent years. We’ve made a conscious transition toward more strategic and consulting services over the past few months which has contributed to us partnering with some fantastic new clients. I’m hugely excited about the future of both our industry and the company.
The deal, completed by James Bagley, Managing Partner at Smith Cooper, follows a reshuffle to the management structure at the agency in 2020. The lawyers acting on the transaction were Duncan Taylor at Nelsons Law, and Martin Hall at Cleggs Solicitors.
Hallam was crowned as Europe’s Best Large Integrated Agency at the 2020 European Search Awards, which follows it being named as Google’s top-performing digital marketing agency for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, winning Google’s elite ‘Google Growing Business Online 2019’ award.
The Nottingham-based full-service digital marketing agency also recently claimed 10 awards at The Drum Marketing Awards evening (2020), including the prestigious Grand Prix prize for a record third successive year.
