If you’re thinking of spending Halloween a bit differently this year, you can go all hi-tech and try the “Haunted Cinema” but with a new concept: virtual reality!
The UK’s first Virtual Reality Cinema, Veero is offering an immersive experience. Thanks to Halloween, they are presenting “Haunted Cinema” in partnership with WeAreCinema, Zurich-based experts in delivering pop-up virtual reality experiences.
The audience is expected to wear an individual headset and a pair of 3D headphones while sitting on a comfortable seat that enables them to easily watch the action all around. Not only will the visuals move head, but also the sounds help making the audience really believe the environment is real.
The movies will be a compilation of horror shorts from acclaimed directors. First one, titled Sonar is a journey into the depths of an asteroid, exploring sprawling ancient caves… until something goes wrong!
Barry Whyte, Founder of Veero, said:
Virtual reality cinema completely changes the rules. As the UK’s first virtual reality cinema, we’ll ensure the VR films find their place alongside the world’s finest theatre – right in the heart of London’s West End.
No longer will viewers have to sit at home with a headset on to enjoy immersive films. Veero makes VR social, and accessible to everyone. Horror is one of the strongest sub-genres within VR film, so it’s perfect for Halloween. We can’t wait to terrify Covent Garden!
The second horror film is called 11:57 listed as a 360° nightmare and a VR horror classic, awarded ‘Best Narrative VR film’ at last year’s VR Fest. They also announced that further shorts will be added soon.
If the event proceeds in success, the company is hoping to open a permanent VR cinema in 2018.
Veero will start their spooky Halloween pop-up, “Haunted Cinema” on Neal Street in Covent Garden from 26 October.
