Have you ever imagined a platform that reinvents itself with a newer version which includes a faster, data friendly user experience? Welcome to Twitter Lite!
Twitter announced Lite yesterday on the official blog, and described the new platform as ‘a new mobile experience which minimizes data usage, loads slower connections quickly and is resilient on unreliable networks.’
Twitter says that on most 3G devices, the Lite version will load to the point of interactivity in under 5 seconds and claim that it can load data 30% faster while it can save up to 70% on data.
Twitter Lite is a faster, data friendly way for people to use Twitter to see what’s happening in the world.
Lite is a Progressive Web App, which means the company was developed in partnership with Google. Additional features may be available for Android users such as push notifications, home-screen shortcuts and more. The app comes in less than 1MB size also.
The app is mostly for the users who reside outside the US, especially the Vodafone users in India, says the company due to their 177 million customers. Lite works through a web browser, yet it isn’t a stand-alone phone application.
This is the first online platform that thought about the users’ own internet, so we may consider this one as a very big step taken for the user experience. Go Twitter!
