Arpad Maksay, who recently joined WeThink Nordic as Director International Business Development shared his experiments and insights about WeThink Nordic’s global role as an independent agency.
Here, you can enjoy reading his own words:
I recently joined WeThink Nordic, which is an independent advertising agency based here in Copenhagen. Our independence means that we are able to work flexibly with our clients and maximize value to them.
How “an independent Nordic”
The focus of my new role is to develop new business with international clients. WeThink already has clients who are based outside of Scandinavia in the U.S., China and further afield. Taking a look at these client relationships and the way we deliver for them, I have observed three areas where I believe we are effectively translating our unique Danish capabilities into value in the global context.
Firstly, there is a very strong design ethic in Denmark. You can see this in the architecture, the urban design, the focus on products and the dedication to quality. The bar is set very high and this means that Denmark produces high calibre designers.
As an Australian, I am also aware of the fact that our iconic Sydney Opera House was the brainchild of Danish architect Jørn Utzon. This is a great example of how Danish design is established and respected at a global level.
Our designers at WeThink bring the legacy of this design culture and translate it into high-quality outputs for our clients.
Secondly, I have found that the working culture in Denmark is very open, honest and direct. Critical thinking is valued, and people are willing to provide their real opinion. In terms of our business practice here at WeThink, this means that we are focused on building effective working relationships with our clients that are based on honesty and transparency. With open and honest discussions as the basis for our work, we are better placed to deliver high-quality work that is effective and meets our clients’ objectives.
Finally, Denmark is a maritime nation that is very globally connected. For a country that has a population of just under 6 million, Danish shipping is a ubiquitous presence in international trade, and Danes are active and enthusiastic travellers. To add to this international mindset, the level of English proficiency is very high. My colleagues at WeThink are flexible and able to adapt to different international contexts and situations.
This year, we partnered with a former colleague to establish WeThink Asia and WeThink Social in Vietnam and Cambodia, where we have 88 employees. Here we have an amazingly talented team, where we act both as a creative and strategic lead agency for local customers as well as other countries in the Asia Pacific region. In addition, we handle global companies, where we help produce and manage local content for global markets.
With our global capacity and uniquely Nordic flavour, I am very excited to be here at WeThink and at the forefront of developing ourselves into a globally focused agency. If you or someone in your network is looking for high-quality design and advertising services, I’d love to hear from you.
