The Hamburger Issue Between Google And Apple Took Over Twitter

A debate about Google and Apple’s hamburger emojis took over the internet this weekend, therefore we decided to shed light on the metaphors underlining the issue.

In a Tweet on Sunday, Thomas Baekdal, Founder of the Baekdal Media, realized the differences of the design elements between the hamburger icons of Google and Apple. The topic is more about the placement of the cheese, which ignites the whole conversation. His main point is to discuss the best way to place the excellent hamburger.

The order says it all. Apple’s hamburger has a slice of tomato at the top, followed by cheese, the lettuce then the lower bun. Google’s burger emoji is quite different with lettuce at the top, then the tomato, the cheese and finally the lower bun. Then logic is, when the lettuce is placed over the lower bun, it protects the bread from getting soggy. So the placement becomes important at this point.

Before long, Baekdal’s tweet had gone viral and sparked a debate about the correct way to build a burger.

So, Google’s CEO, Sundar Pichai, saw the topic and made a public announcement – promising that Google would “drop everything else we are doing and address on Monday.”

Apple shot to fame with their vision of design, rounded kerbs, matching colours and simplicity, but they’re also aware that every single design material counts on the world wide web. Look through Emojipedia and see how the other hamburgers were built. However, it’s visible that Google is eager to change the burger, we’re already curious about the updated version!

This ‘iconic’ worldwide debate teaches us the importance of digital media. Things that you don’t think anybody will notice, do get noticed.
