Industry giant Mars and AMV BBDO rolled out their new Snickers ad on 1st September, featuring Sir Elton John – ‘but not as you’ve seen him before’.
The long-running tagline of the brand “You’re Not You When You’re Hungry” , now takes a turn with Elton John and all his glam glory. The spot kicks off at a house party with a mic-battle featuring rappers Emarr Kuhomano, and Monique Lawz. Then Sir Elton steps up, wearing his iconic red frames and the glitter jacket.
The new film, also featured on Snickers’ Facebook page, you can see John’s venture into the hip-hop genre and his edge due to hunger.
John starts to sing one of his biggest hits ‘Don’t go breaking my heart’, while humorously existing the crowd. Then rapper Femi Nylander takes the subject out by offering Elton a Snickers bar and turn it into a real show.
Dale Green, Snickers Global Brand Director, says:
Building on the ‘You’re Not You When You’re Hungry’ theme, which has connected so well with consumers, we’re glad to see this latest installment take the story a step further.
When we developed the rap-battle concept, we knew Elton John would be the perfect fit to help bring this to life. His unique blend of music, style, and humour is instantly recognisable around the world and works well with our Snickers brand.
Sir Elton John also commented,
Most people already know I’ve long been an advocate of hip-hop and that’s why I wanted to be a part of this – I got to hang out with Boogie and some great hip-hop talent from the UK too!
Moreover, I love the direction the new Snickers ads have humorously portrayed being off your game when you’re hungry, but in a way that’s current and relevant to young people, especially considering hip-hop is one of the biggest music genres in the world today.
The 60-second spot from AMV BBDO will run on TV in the U.S. beginning next week and will also air in the U.K., Russia and Germany.
A real epic spot, we bet Sir John can make it to James Corden’s mic-battle after this!
