Snapchat is encouraging people to register to vote in the upcoming election in the US. It is seen as a huge move to get millenials’ attention.
The company made a partnership with TurboVote that motivates voter registration, allows users to check their eligibility and to register all within the app. There’s no method like “snap to register” for now due to the state laws. Still, the registration process supposed to take 60 seconds. According to Nielsen, the app reaches 41% of all 18-34-year-old Americans on any given day in the social media platform.
To get Snapchat users’ attention, the company has partnered with several celebrities, including Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Ryan Seacrest, Ciara and Jimmy Fallon to explain how the process works.
Snapchat spokesperson reported saying,
Our country’s democracy thrives on participation. But you can’t participate unless you register to vote. We hope this effort amplifies our community’s voice come November,
The Trump and Clinton campaigns have used Snapchat during the election and run video ad buys. It will be the first “Snapchat election”, but Snapchat CEO Evan Spiegel preferred to call it the “people’s election.” in an appearance.
