This Book’s Story Changes Depending On Where You Are: Trip Book Smiles

Brazilian loyalty program Smiles has released an interactive book as part of its “365 Reasons To Smile” campaign, to celebrate its 20th anniversary.

An innovative combination of paper and technology, it can be a brilliant way of creating a unique reading experience for travelers. Loyalty program Smiles, which works with Brazil’s Gol airline collaborated with São Paulo-based agency FCB Brazil to create this interactive book.

The enhanced eReader features an interactive story written by author Marcelo Rubens Paiva specifically for the device. The book makes references to the city or place the reader is in as he progresses through the novel.

The book, called Trip Book Smiles, provides readers with a unique experience with the story that changes depending on where the reader is in the world.

FCB Brazil developed an exclusive geolocation technology that locates the reader’s position. The story then takes place in the city where the reader is. If the reader travels while reading the story, the setting changes accordingly so the characters also experience the new locations, including New York, Paris, Rome, Rio de Janeiro, Lisbon or Buenos Aires.

The story is also available as a free interactive eBook app for both iOS and Android devices which nearly all include GPS or basic location tracking functionality.
