Since it’s the wonderful time of the year, Christmas cheer is everywhere and the brands are fully aware of it with their holiday commercials!
Best commercials appear during the festive season and these ads prove it. Animated ones, act-plays, ones with sorrow, ones that are super-funny! Christmas commercials of 2016 are pretty impressive with their huge production budgets. Let them reveal the child in you, watch them all and pick your best one.
Here are the best Christmas commercials in 2016:
Sainsbury’s – The Greatest Gift
Sainsbury’s did it once again with one of the most popular Christmas commercials in 2016. The main reason for its popularity is “carpool karaoke comedian” James Corden, who is the singer in this animated ad, which was directed by award-winning Sam Fell.
This spectacular commerical was created in UK, using a combination of hand-crafted stop frame animation tecniques and cutting edge 3D-colour printing technology.
Temptations – Keep Them Busy – Cats Kitten Kitty
We all agree that holiday season is cozier with pets, especially cats that naturally have the spirit. This advert by Temptations makes us think that ‘Santa claws’ love messing around with the decorations. Gifts are pulled apart, trees topple and brances broken. Cat people, no offense but you really need to keep them busy!
intu – Your Kind of Shopping
This commercial from intu reveals the holiday stereotypes and personified puppeteers. A tale is narrated by Joe Mann and seven kinds of Christmas shoppers are introduced. A last-minute shopper? A super-organized wise shopper? A me me me-shopper? Watch this ad and find out what kind of shopper you are.
M&S – Christmas With Love From Mrs. Claus
Marks and Spencer proves that Santa could be a woman, and a very classy one. They nailed the holiday advert #LoveMrsClaus in an untraditional way. Janet Mc Teer plays the much-loved character and she’s marvellous. She reminds us a little Glenn Close type of role. This Christmas commercial reached 8 million views on YouTube and hit social media like John Lewis.
LOWE’S – Ginger Deer
This is a story of a gingerbread man cookie trying to find its place. Created by BBDO New York; the tagline is, “The best part of the holidays is feeling at home.”
Aldi – Kevin The Carrot
Follow this humble carrot on his quest to meet Santa this Christmas, because Aldi makes a great commercial out of a gingerbread-man cookie. The magical and tasty advert is about #kevinthecarrot, it is a re-narration of The Night Before Christmas. This could be considered as a cinematic masterpiece, really.
Mercedes Benz – Snow Date
Don’t know why, but this is a sad one for everyone. A young boy has a date planned but his father is concerned about the weather conditions because of an ongoing snowstorm. The commercial features the song “Make You Feel My Love” by Sleeping At Last.
The brand aims to make you feel the winter romance, but we have no idea if they nailed it, or failed it. The song is good, though.
Forever Living – Be Your Favourite Self
Beauty and cosmetics brand, Forever Living, has a great message before heading to 2017. A little girl makes her own little candy cane house and talks out her confessions about herself. “Sometimes I stretch my neck out to be bigger.”, is the most frank confession a girl can make. So, follow the girl and #beyourfavouriteself this year.
TK Maxx – The Sing Song Commercial
This Christmas commercial is my favourite! What a lovely idea to turn this song into acapella style with the Christmas touch. The Pulp Fiction OST was never covered like this before. So, sorry The Black Eyed Peas. The UK-based retail chain knows its stuff, and has a great sense of British humor. This commercial has been directed by Andreas Nilsson.
Harrods – A Very British Bear Tale
A beary tale from Harrods which is naive but powerful. Starring a teddy-bear named Hugh, who has the task of saving Christmas and breaking the spell of the cheeky elf. You can also buy the tale’s book.
While we all say our farewells to 2016, we wish you the best in 2017!
